Windows
2000: Is it right for you?
Chances are NO, Windows 2000
was designed for larger corporations with strong
administrative features in mind. The Windows 2000 series
requires more than a pretty decent computer. Ads and
media have been claiming this to be the next generation and an
upgrade to your existing Windows operating system. It was
supposedly a merge between there existing home and business
products. This hasn't been the case. Now that it
has unfolded, Microsoft isn't telling you that they recommend
it installed by the manufacturer/ assembler of your computer.
This next generation operating system seemed to have really
followed NT's steps. That is the steps of the business
administrator in mind. Many system components are left
out of the box during the install of the operating system.
These items are called drivers. Again as stated on the
box of the 2000 series is that Microsoft recommends these
products for the business inclined. For those personal
computer owners wishing to get the latest and greatest, beware
the media and rumors. For those technically inclined
with a budget for decent hardware, enjoy. Remember no
matter what hardware you have, you will see a considerable
speed difference in the Windows95/98 or Windows NT to Windows
2000 upgrade.
Did I mention the price?

AMD
doing a good job keeping up.
AMD's latest
processor the 800MHZ is definitely a worthy competitor to Intel.
AMD has been around for some time now as a less expensive
alternative. We have seen so far that the cheaper price tag
has showed itself in some mainboard incompatabilities as well as
overall performance issues. There latest processor has take
a spotlight. The Athlon. Recently benchmark tested to be the
supreme processor. There performance can now match or even
exceed Intels top product line the PIII processor. We all
know of course that we never can put Intel out of the
picture. Intel always has some more tricks up its
sleeves. It's new line the Willamette processor which claims
speeds in excess of 1000MHZ that is 1 GHZ. Let's just wait and
see. But for now, there is an even match out there.
Looking at the same processor with comparable prices, you get AMD
for performance or Intel for support.
